Sridevi, who was known by only her first name, was found dead in a Dubai bathtub last week.
Local cops today closed their investigation, saying the 54-year-old drowned accidentally after losing consciousness.
Police officials also said the autopsy revealed she had alcohol in her system at the time of her death.
But Subramanian Swamy, a major figure in India’s Bharatiya Janata Party, has claimed the actress was murdered, The Tribune reports.
And he sensationally alleged that her death was staged to look like an accident.
Swamy is quoted as saying: “She never drank hard liquor, so how did it enter her system – was she forcibly fed?”
He also questioned the apparent lack of CCTV evidence, adding: “It suddenly appears in the media that she died of heart failure as if it’s planned.
It was initially reported that Sridevi had died of a heart attack, but the death certificate made no mention of cardiac arrest.
Swamy added: “If you ask my opinion I’ll tell you that I think it’s murder.”
The politician also claimed the death was linked to a shady underworld figure who he said had connections to top Bollywood actors.
Sridevi’s death has been front-page news in India, where Bollywood stars command an almost mythical status.
Her family brought the actress’ body to Mumbai in a private plane on Tuesday night.
Several Bollywood personalities and a large number of her fans were at the airport to pay homage to Sridevi.
And fans have been gathering in front of the Mumbai home of her brother-in-law, top actor Anil Kapoor.
